When the world was young and new, springing with life and creatures both fearsome and graceful, three brothers were crafted and placed on a large, lush isle in a Scottish loch. Their names were Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, and they were the start of a new era. Zeus was given a power unable to be controlled by any other; the power of electricity, and lightning. Poseidon was given the control over water, an element that can kill or save. Hades was given the power of necromancing; he could kill anything except his brothers, be it plant or animal. At the age of two, these brothers began practicing their skills, but something happened that would alter the course of their purpose on earth.
Hades became addicted to death.
He began to create fear among the creatures and plants, and his brothers became angry. Finally, at the age of five, Zeus woke Poseidon in the middle of the night. They must do something to stop him; they must try to kill their own brother. So, they snuck into Hade's section of island, and attacked him in his sleep. After hours of fighting, they all realized they couldn't kill each other, and not because they weren't strong. Their creators made each immortal, and no level of violence could stop their hearts. But, eons went on, and the brothers continued fighting. The land was neglected, animals dead, and none of the gods were doing anything against it.
The creators decided enough was enough. They created Hermes, Apollo, and Artemis, who trained and thrived in the shadows of the brothers. But, when their power grew to the strength of the brothers, they began to repair the lands, and the three brothers took notice. Zeus and Poisedon joined them, while Hades just disappeared. Soon, the lands were quiet, and lush once more. The creators decided their work was done; but still, they could not slay their equine creations. So, after a quiet bickering, they told the equines if they would come together to create a land, they could live there and create other equines. All decided to, and out of no where Hades emerged and decided to it. The other equine gods were shocked, but even evil was needed to create the land.
Years went by like days, but finally, the horses created a large isle, big enough to house all of the heavens and then some. The equine gods began creating their likenesses right away; pegasi were created, kelpies splashed to life, sleipni running about, and many others. Zeus focused to keeping the horses in check; he learnt all of their names, and created none of his own creatures. But, when all was thought to be well, Hades emerged with "good" news...he would rule all of Equinopia. The equine gods, with their many followers, just snickered. Apollo, with his firey attitude, asked him, "You and what army?" Hades just smirked, and out from the shadows emerged chimaeras and nightmares; fang-toothed freaks with a lust for blood.
The gods gathered troops, but used none of them, bickering and fighting over who would rule over what. This caused history to replay itself; the lands were sent into decay, horses dying, streams and lakes shriveling up. One day, the gods got fed up enough, and finally dove into action with their armies. Nightmares tore at the wings of pegasi, kelpies drown Chimaeras of all sizes, and all the while Zeus watched from the shadows. The creators didn't have time to react before Zeus struck the ground with a bolt so fierce, it split the dry and bloody plain in two. A rumbling earthquake began, and the gods and their creatures took shelter. When it finished, Zeus demanded all gods out to the plain. There, they observed the dead bodies and largely fractured ground. Zeus told them all to fix the mess; he'd deal with Hades himself. So, while the others repaired the land, healed the injured, and righted their land, Hades was under the guard of Zeus.
Finally, all the lands were corrected, and more equine species made, but one land remained unsalvagable: the lands they'd fought upon. No amount of water could take away the dryness; no amount of grass could cover the lands. It remained a dried savanna, shriveled and hot. Zeus banished Hades and his creatures there; Hade's followers would perish, and Hades would become weak without food or water. The equines and their gods began to become happier now, but were still wary. At a council, though, Zeus told them equines had been spotting "moving shadows without a body to cast," and even Hades himself. The equines knew something had to be done; but was it true? They all went to the Banishment Plains; Hades and his followers were gone. The gods became enraged, but began to calm slightly when nothing bad was reported. Suddenly, though, equines were dying from random attacks, and more violence strewn about. Though the gods remained calm, equines got frantic, and some even started hunting nightmares.
The paranoia swept over the lands, equines trying to live normally, but in constant fear of nightmares and chimaeras. Horses would begin attacking randomly, thinking one was a nightmare. The gods tried to keep cool about the situation, until news reached them that nightmares and chimaeras had begun forcing mares for offspring, and other horses who'd decided to help Hades were forcing mares of different elementals, creating sleipni of earth, unicorns of fire, and so on. The gods are beginning, now, to prepare for another war. Will you help the nightmares succeed? Or will you try to halt the gods?
It is time for you to make a choice between good and evil.
