A lone equine stumbled among the trees. She walked to her demise slowly, never stopping, never changing pace. The mare sighed slightly as she entered the trees of the dark forest. The day was just reaching it's end, a beautiful twilight was beginning. The sky exploded in reds and golds, pinks and purples. But under the cover of the giant redwoods no light or color shone through. The ground grew treacherous and rocky, but still the mare plodded on incessantly.
As Persephone entered the shadows, something happened. Her shining liver chestnut coat darkened slowly, ripening into a blood bay. Her tendril markings that suggested small plants turned to black with her eyes. The mare noticed these change and sighed inwardly once more. Imagine your computer failing every day at exactly the same time. Familiar, but still very annoying. This is what Persephone felt. Suddenly she could smell Hades. His bloodied scent assaulted her nose: he must have killed recently in this area. Not surprising. She knew him way too well. Persephone straightened her shoulders and aquired a sultry look. After years of being beaten when Hades was angry, she could act her way out of most of their disagreements. The sway in her step intensified, even as she thought of rants she wished she could shout at Hades. The goddess finally entered the dismal clearing. She noticed the murky pool was undisturbed, the damp ground free of hoofprints. Hades had not yet arrived in his abode. Persephone stood dead center in the clearing and zoned out, remembering how she got to this point......
When Hades had first rescued her from drowning, Persephone remembers looking up into his black eyes and almost loving him. She had never met another horse before, and from the way her mother had talked of the others, she had not expected one to save her. So Persephone adored him, and he clearly adored her in the filly's naive eyes. But Hades had mood swings, so much he was almost bi-polar. In between teasing her and treating her with everything she wanted, the lord of the underworld tortured and beat her. That young love quickly disappeared and turned into the first hate Persephone had ever felt. She had first shouted and tried to fly away, but she soon learned that just made it worse. Hades was thrown into a passion, chaining her up and destroying her beautiful island. He was inconsolable for days, unresponsive and furious. So now Persephone bore the chains in the way a child would eat broccoli. Grudgingly, but she did it in the hopes that one day the chains would be removed.
Persephone suddenly started, breaking abruptly from her revelry. A small sound came from the forest. " Long time, no see"
Ooc: Sorry, it could be longer but I started to run out of muse at the end. I will get right on finding a pic but most of the good ones are copyrighted..... Sigh Listening to: "Love The Way You Lie" by Eminem with Rihanna- really fits the scene lol Doing: eating chicken pot pie mmmm!

he moved as quietly as possible, the simple fact that he was larger then most and could still move as though he were merely a shadow gliding acoss the ground. his queen moved only several paces away in tune with his own heavy steps. Hades wasn't the black god he usually took form in, instead he stood at sixteen point one, his usual ebon pelt had faded into a rich and lush speckled grey coat, his usual cropped mane and tail was long, and clean. it seemed as though he was a totally different equine, but hades couldn't shake the black fog in which stalked him where ever he dare go. it was death, and hades was the king of the damned, the deprived, and the souless. so why the hell shouldn't it follow him? it seemed logical, didn't it?
it was when she stopped at the lake he came out of the thick underbrush. he had been awaiting her arrival for days, bustling about looking for presents and gifts to give his queen when she dare to arrive. he had been stuck out in the brush for hours before the damned mare decided to show up. he opens his maw after she speaks, allowing the charming lyrics equine knew all to well to pour out.
"Darling, I've Missed You."

The goddess looked up as her mate entered the clearing. His walk smooth as glass, quiet as the rustle of small leaves or maybe silk, had made her fall in love with him when Hades first took her. Unfortunately that had faded quickly. By the end of the first trial she had just wanted to go home. Persephone had to admit it probably would have been easier to just love him all these years. But he was the king of death, give her a break, it was hard to adore him. It did make it easier to be with Hades because as time went on she built up quite a tolerance. It began to not be as terrible. Also, over the summer, Persephone refreshed herself and was now ready to deal with the stallion. Don't get me wrong: if the goddess ever had a choice she would have chosen mortality and just killed herself rather than be imprisoned one more year. That simply wasn't going to happen. And so Hades had his small victory.
Persephone walked smoothly over to Hades. Stuck in the body of a three year old, she was the perfect blood bay color. Her long and slightly lanky body gave her speed and agility. Where her legs failed to perform, her giant ebony wings could. Already the chain was around her ankle, she was required to wear it upon entering Right now she kept them folded behind her neatly as they tended to get in the way. Persephone's horn was silver, with beautiful black tendril like markings wrapped around it. She carefully maneuvered it around Hades face as she gently touched her muzzle to his.
"As I missed you. Sorry I am late, these wings can not carry me swiftly through wild ocean winds"
Of course this was a lie. She had dreaded having to come for weeks. But she was the best liar in all of this island, even better than Hades himself. The goddess could not remember the last time she was caught and she would never be caught in the future. Persephone took one step back to look him in the eyes. She was nearly as tall as him, so her chin lifted a bit to look at him. She could taste blood in the air, that was to be expected. The vixen threw caution to the wind and spoke.
" Hades, I heard a disquieting rumor earlier. When is this 'meeting of the gods?' "
Persephone rested on her hip in a casual position. She felt this meeting falling into the old pattern.
ooc: When I say those patterns on her horn, i mean like henna almost.

Hades sneered in what sounded like disgust. he knew she dreaded it here, he knew that she didn't love him, he knew that she would rather be dead then be stuck here with him. the thought made him sad, was it really that horrible to be in the company of he? the shape hades had taken form made his vixen nearly as tall as he, and he disliked it greatly, focusing strongly he allowed all images of himself to come to mind, adventually after the bone crunching process the large black draft stood before his mate. eyes softening as she touched his maw, he couldn't help but loose track of thought..
"Soon, Love."
large daggers dragged across the moist earth past his mate, over the thin silver chain in which bound her to his cave, and to the water. he lowered his maw to the coolness of the liquid and drunk deeply. as the coolness ran down his throat he allowed himself to travel, a thin sparkling veil of light poured from his mind and into hers, were he searched for the answers he was looking for. and by goly he found them, even though they were not what he wanted and not what he hoped. he raised his maw. and turned to his vix and spoke with pure acid in his voice.
"you lie, does being here with me not please you? would you rather be with the hell hounds and nightmares?"
Sorrow poured throughout Hades as he turned in disgust.

Persephone sighed as he spoke. A meeting meant travel, and travel meant long hours of flying, exhaustion, and an unhappy Hades. Just the prospect of a meeting with Zeus always set his teeth on edge, and the combination of travel and his brother made Hades visibly more bitter than usual. She smiled as his eyes softened, but he still seemed very distracted. Had something gone wrong before she arrived?
"Hmm. Stupid Zeus has to schedule a meeting about what we already know...."
Persephone trailed off, becoming more confused as Hades moved about. He glided over to the pool silently, dark clouds billowing behind him and dipped his nose in for a drink. The goddess too was thirsty, but she knew too well to dare try when he was so disconcerted. His maw made ripples in the murky water, disrupting th reflections of stars neither of them could see. Persephone waited patiently, until he touched her mind. Instantly recoiling, for it hurt, she tried to shield her thoughts before reminding herself that wouldn't matter anyway. He would find what he would find and he wasn't going to like it. Her thoughts did not think highly of him at all. The goddess winced and instinctively stepped back from the coming wrath as he pivoted toward her in his frightening grace. Hades was certainly handsome when he was this angry, but only her subconscience told her this quietly as he spoke with pure acid. She answered calmy but inside was quavering like a newborn foal.
"Hades, you know that you wouldn't be my first choice. After all, my parents despise you, and I was taught to do he same. Love is slow. Give me some time. Maybe this winter will be the time. You do have to give me something to want to be with though"
At the end she smiled a small, tentative smile in his favorite way. Not to manipulate him, but truly to make him happy. It seemed odd to her when she first saw a soft side in him. It was small, and he covered it up, but it was there. You just had to know where it was. Or else you got beaten.

oh lord. The brute couldnt look at his mate with a straight face, what features usually were controlled, looked as though he were being strangled. Hades ebon face looked downward for once the dark lord had nothing to say, whether it was speechlessness or pure shock. She was actually willing to give him a chance Over the chilly winter? It was a thrilling thought... Maybe he would finally be capable of completing his hellish army with her at his side. The thought brought hades dark and arousing eyes back to hers, searching and wondering what she could possibly be thinking. He hadnt eaten flesh of another in about a week, yet he had been using alot of his magic when he didnt have the strength for it.
darling, you could never love a monster, your to pure of heart.
His voice rasped out loudly, he made his way toward the wood his voice shifting and his body forming into that of a petite Arabian, his lyrics softened as he chanted a deadly song. His raspy and sensual voice made it hard to resist. And it made it quite easy for the water sprites to begin dancing around him with giggles pouring from them. It was then that he dropped his head with impressive speed, expanded his maw and swallowed one of the little elves whole. The rest ran screaming, while hades crunched on the bones of the one he decided to devour. Persephone had seen him eat before, had seen him kill, seen him and felt him be abusive. Why didn't she do all possible to hate him? Was there truly somewhere inside her that might hold love for such a beast?

Persephone held her gaze as Hades looked down. Her deep milk chocolate eyes shone and sparkled. She had never felt so courageous as this in her life. Maybe this was the wrong decision. Maybe she would regret it. But it was too late now to go back, so she stuck with her story. The goddess did not look down, but tilted her head ever so slightly in utter confusion. Hades had never acted like this before to her. It was always either desire, hate, or pensiveness. These new emotions were obviously new to Hades, as he couldn't hide them at all. Then he looked up at her, and Persephone nearly blushed. She was not prepared to be in charge of the situation like this. Her eyes dropped to the ground for a split second, then she looked up again as he spoke.
"Are you really a monster Hades? Or are you just used to acting like one?"
It was a truthful question, not meant just as encouragement or something like that. She still wasn't sure herself. Past experience told her that yes, he was the worst monster the world had ever known. But this meeting, it was changing her view of him, though changing to what the goddess still had no idea. Persephone watched him change, then eat by the pool. The crunch of the bones made her wince every time, even after hundreds of his meals. Of course, she was the goddess of spring and small animals, so any kind of bone smashing noises made her want to throw up. But she had to get used to it, so the mare only bit her lip and watched. Persephone had a small place in her heart for all small animals. After years of seeing Hades' world, she still was very pure. It seemed hard to believe, considering all that had happened, beatings and death, torture and blood. But the goddess was still clean of soul and pure of heart, even if her three year old mind was just a bit less naive, a bit smarter. So Persephone had a storm rolling in her head. Was it right to want to be with death itself? Did that place in her heart apply for other beings than the children of spring? Well, death was Hades with his many terrible moods and facets of his mind. But it didn't seem so terrible after a while. After all, death was a part of the natural life cycle. He was death and darkness, she was life and light. They balanced each other. So was it natural for them to be together?
It was all so confusing. Persephone walked over and took a long drink from the murky water in the hopes it would sooth her raw mind as well as her raw throat. Not even close. Oh well. Her smooth eyes sought out Hades' once more. Desperate to change the subject, Persephone spoke once more in a light tone that pealed like a bell just slightly.
"We had better leave soon. Now is not the time for a fight with your brothers"
She smiled her crooked half smile.
"Although I know how much you're looking forward to it"
