Every two months we will have a new site-wide plot for everyone to participate in. There is a short application to create a character. The plot this time is: [/center]
There is a small town in Maine called Brooks. This town holds an approximate 300 people. It’s tiny, in other words. There aren’t enough people to really call it a city by any stretch of the imagination. This town has three stores (a grocery store, a hardware store, and a gas station), a post office, police station, a bar, a town hall, and a one-room schoolhouse.
There is a very prevalent town council. The head of the council also serves as the sheriff of the town. There are a lot of concerned citizens. They want the best for their town, no matter what. The whole town holds a lot of events and such to be considered one of the best "small towns of New England" It's supposed to be a good-natured, warm and friendly environment. The police do nothing but sit around. They get called on property-line disputes that get out of hand and cats that get stuck in trees. In this town, everyone thinks they know everyone else’s business. It is a very “He said…she said” type of environment, but word does travel very quickly.
There is a murder in the town. The sheriff and the townfolk have to figure out who could have committed such a heinous crime of murdering a fellow citizen. The only problem is, it could be anyone in town. The man that was murdered was not well-liked. He was the crotchety old man who participated in none of the crazy things the townspeople put on. He was always the one calling the sheriff to come and tell his neighbor to get off his lawn. Everyone hated Torvald. He was old, and nobody got along with him.
Though, the sheriff of the town cannot just stand by while a murderer is getting away. He has always been an upstanding citizen. He would not let anyone get away with this. Since he is the only named detective in the area, he will have to investigate and question those closest to Torvald. Will he and the other townsfolk be able to figure out ‘who done it?’
**Note: Brooks Maine is a real town. It's bigger than I've alotted for in the role play Its population (as of 2007) was 1,010. It really does only have three stores, and a town hall and a post office. I'm not sure the town is even big enough to have a sherrif's department or its own fire department. It's in the middle of Maine and therefore surrounded by trees.
