The Nightmare
Nightmares are a rare breed of equine. There are no reported sightings of them in history, nor is there writing about them. This doesn't mean they don't exsist; they are, in fact, very real. But, they are only seen to those who know death is close, or have had nightmares, or have witnessed death.
-----
Nightmares, or Demon Horses, are slim, skeleton-like equines with a deathly glare. Their eyes are most commonly red, or silver, or golden, and can hypnotize horses into a state of coma or sleep, depending on how long they want their victims asleep. There are no common colours for these creatures; they can be zebra-striped, or pink and white, or simply chestnut. The only striking coat features are an almost black sheen, like they are in the shade 24/7, and in most horses a white, body-wide marking that looks like the horse's skeleton. They are naturally close to anorexic, but alluring because of their hypnotic powers.
These horses didn't exsist for quite a while. But, one day, a long time ago, a man died in an acche man had long been abusing horses, and Satan said the horse must go to Heaven, because the creature did nothing wrong. But the man insisted he stayed, so Satan devised a plan. When a mare and her owner died, he forced the two together and taught the colt, Galileo, how to slide into dreams and back out. He did this again with a filly, and then sent the demonic horses to the surface, where they began to reproduce.
As the breed's name may describe, most of this type of equine were female. This is because females were much better at luring horses into their traps, to get them to sleep. Because they were better, the breed began to evolve over time, but for a short period, so many of the foals were fillies. But, stallions made a fierce comeback, as many can produce such terrifying dreams that the victim goes into a panic attack and most often dies. Now, there are as many female Demon Horses as male, and they both cause unimaginable terrors.
